A Rectilinear-Monotone Polygonal Fault Block Model for Fault-Tolerant Minimal Routing in Mesh

چکیده
We propose a new fault block model, Minimal-Connected-Component (MCC), for fault-tolerant adaptive routing in meshconnected multiprocessor systems. This model refines the widely used rectangular model by including fewer nonfaulty nodes in fault blocks. The positions of source/destination nodes relative to faulty nodes are taken into consideration when constructing fault blocks. The main idea behind it is that a node will be included in a fault block only if using it in a routing will definitely make the route nonminimal. The resulting fault blocks are of the rectilinear-monotone polygonal shapes. A sufficient and necessary condition is proposed for the existence of the minimal “Manhattan” routes in the presence of such fault blocks. Based on the condition, an algorithm is proposed to determine the existence of Manhattan routes. Since MCC is designed to facilitate minimal route finding, if there exists no minimal route under MCC fault model, then there will be absolutely no minimal route whatsoever. We will also present two adaptive routing algorithms that construct a Manhattan route avoiding all fault blocks, should such routes exist.

Fault-Tolerant and Deadlock-Free Routing in 2-D Meshes Using Rectilinear-Monotone Polygonal Fault Blocks
We propose a deterministic fault-tolerant and deadlock-free routing protocol in 2-dimensional (2-D) meshes based on Wu’s fault-tolerant odd–even turn model and Wang’s rectilinear-monotone polygonal fault block model. The fault-tolerant odd–even turn protocol, also called extended X–Y routing, was originally proposed to achieve fault-tolerant and deadlock-free routing among traditional, rectangu...

A new, rectilinear-monotone polygonally shaped fault block model, called Minimal-Connected-Component (MCC), was proposed in [D. By increasing, the complexity of chips and the need to integrating more components into a chip has made network –on- chip known as an important infrastructure for network communications on the system, and is a good alternative to traditional ways and using the bus. By increasing the density of chips, the possibility of failure in the chip network increases and providing correction and fault tol...
متن کاملFault-Tolerant Adaptive and Minimal Routing in Mesh-Connected Multicomputers Using Extended Safety Levels
ÐThe minimal routing problem in mesh-connected multicomputers with faulty blocks is studied, Two-dimensional meshes are used to illustrate the approach. A sufficient condition for minimal routing in 2D meshes with faulty blocks is proposed. Unlike many traditional models that assume all the nodes know global fault distribution, our approach is based on the concept of an extended safety level, w...
متن کاملA Limited-Global Fault Information Model for Dynamic Routing in -D Meshes
In this paper, a fault-tolerant routing in -D meshes with dynamic faults is provided. It is based on an early work on fault-tolerant routing in dynamic 2-D meshes [9] and 3-D meshes [10] where faults occur during a routing process. Unlike many traditional models that assume all the nodes know global fault information, our approach is based on the concept of limited global fault information. Fir...
